Soft Pass

A cube. A soft one. Thirteen inches in every direction, every edge rounded off until there's nothing to catch on.

A soft pass is a decision made without being announced. Nobody says no. Nobody says anything. The replies get shorter, the gaps get longer, and the thing that was there is gradually and deliberately allowed to fade, because fading is easier for the person doing it than saying the sentence out loud. There's no moment to point at. That's the design.

This object has had every edge taken off it. Nothing sharp, nothing definite, nothing that would let you say precisely when it happened. It's the gentlest possible shape, and it will not give you a straight answer.

Side table, ottoman, pedestal, or a thing you explain to guests while they look mildly confused in the best way. You'll want to sit on it, decide it's too nice for that, and sit on it anyway.
