Everyone knows someone who says this. They said it forty minutes ago. They are still saying it, cheerfully, as the road narrows and the light goes.

I Know a Shortcut takes the longest possible route to a light bulb. From a heavy, settled base — the only part of the piece that seems sure of anything — the body breaks into a run of hard turns, each one reversing the last. Nothing here is a curve. A curve would mean easing into a decision. These are commitments: full-speed, sharp-angled, immediately reconsidered, then committed to again in a new direction. The form is fragmented, but it is never timid. Doubt and boldness turn out to be the same gesture repeated.

Near the top the piece finally softens, leans out over the room, and looks down — the whole staggering journey resolving into one small pool of warm light. It arrives. It was never going to arrive the way it said it would, and it arrives anyway.

The shadow it casts on the wall is the argument in full: the same jagged path, rendered flat and slightly larger, like a story being retold with the difficult parts left in.

There is a particular kind of confidence that isn't certainty at all. It's the willingness to keep choosing while still unsure — to be wrong in public, correct course, and press on without apology. That's what this piece is made of.

Designed digitally in Blender and fabricated through large-format resin 3D printing across the studio's printer fleet, with cast resin sections and epoxy clay, hand-assembled, hand-painted and finished in high-gloss.
