Fine, Thanks

Asked how it's holding up, this piece would tell you it's fine. It is not entirely fine.

Fine, Thanks is caught mid-buckle. Four legs, each one giving at a different point and in a different direction, knees soft, weight shifting to whichever joint hasn't complained yet. The feet have gone flat and wide the way feet do at the end of a long day — spreading out, taking up more floor, doing whatever it takes to stay under the load. And above it all, the seat sits perfectly level. Unbothered. Ready.

That contradiction is the whole piece. The failure is entirely in the legs; the composure is entirely on top. It has decided that whatever is happening below the surface is not the visitor's problem.

There's something almost polite about it. It doesn't want to make a fuss, doesn't want to be asked twice, doesn't want anyone to notice. It has been standing a long time and intends to keep standing, because being sat on is the one thing it knows how to do and it isn't ready to stop being useful yet.

Rendered in a blue too bright and too glossy for any of this to read as tragedy. It's tired, not defeated. There's a difference, and the piece insists on it.

Designed digitally in Blender and fabricated through large-format resin 3D printing across the studio's printer fleet, with cast resin sections and epoxy clay, hand-assembled, hand-painted and finished in high-gloss.
