Not dead — dying slowly, in a well-lit room, in full view of people who walk past it every day. That's the specific cruelty of wilting: it happens at a speed no one notices. There's no moment to point at. It just becomes true.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eAnd the piece has not registered any of this. There's no drama in the curves, no straining, no visible struggle. Each neck droops with the same soft, unbothered grace, as though bending were simply what it had decided to do. It is being knocked down and it is not aware that it is being knocked down. That gap — between what's happening to it and what it thinks is happening — is the emotion the piece is built on.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eThe pink makes it worse, deliberately. Healthy, blooming, sweet: the colour of something thriving. From across the room it reads as a flower. Only up close do you see that every head is pointed at the ground.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eAnd still, all four are lit. It has continued to do the one thing it is for, all the way down, giving out light while nothing comes back in. That's not resilience — resilience implies noticing.
